Possible Format Change

This year I'm looking at a more straight forward plotting format that will be easier but still fun. Contestants will get a map with a number of "points" on it. For each point there is a tulip indicating direction of entry and exit from the intersection (point). Contestants then plot the shortest distance between points that meet the entry and exit criteria.
I'm still deciding how to time and score but am leaning toward a form of jogularity on a separate timing schedule. Navigators will be busy following maps so calculating would be difficult for all but the most proficient or those with computers. The jogularity takes care of that and allows me to use experience rather than equipment for classification.

Course Started

I think I'm going to try doing the event on Sunday this year as people seem very busy on Saturday's. So Sunday March 25th. Will use very similar if not same regulations as last year with the addition of a tour class for those that just want to go out for a drive. For them timing will be to the second with the true time specified in the instructions, that is, a Monte. For the rest of you I'm still deciding plot and bash vs pre-plot. For pre-plot you would all plot the course at the beginning and then go out and run it using the course you plotted on the map.
Registration is tentatively 11AM on the 25th with first car out at 1PM. If pre-plot then 12-1PM would be your plotting time.
The other change is this year we go back to being an SCCA event so I have to decide what SCCA type(s) to sanction the event as.

2012 Muddy Waters

With the Yucatan just about wrapped up (still doing paperwork) it's time to start looking at putting together the course for the Muddy Waters. It will be a Plot and Bash similar to the first two MMWs with some new twists. It will likely start and and at the MuddyWaters Pub in Prescott, WI. Tentative date is March 24th or 25th depending on conflicts with other area events.

Stay tuned for more information.

Final Check

Final check today. Snow and ice gone from all roads. All roads paved but there is sand on some areas as one would expect this time of year.

Come early to the start and look at the MGs there for their spring kick-off. The Onion is a little pricey but do try to buy something, if not food, coffee a soft drink etc.

There will be a break around 3PM at the Valley Bar and Grill. You should have 30-40 minutes depending on how you are doing. They have great burgers.

The end point is the Muddy Waters Restaurant in Prescott. We should have an area upstairs. We should be there starting about 5:30. They have nice food and great beverages.

Hope to see you Saturday

Start Info part 2

We were in Hastings this morning looking at the start point/registration. There is an MG Spring kickoff brunch at the Onion Grille in Hastings, MN on the 26th at 10AM. I will be attending this so I'm planning on starting the rally at noon with first car out at 1PM. There is also a nice cafe around the corner (The Red Rock) if the Onion doesn't work out. The Onion is supposed to open March 1st so we couldn't talk to them. Rally will start in the Municipal parking lot across from the VFW.

Start Info

I have a few details to work out but we expect the rally to starts in Hastings, MN on the 26th of March. Registration likely 12-1. Should know after this weekend when we go down there to finalize.

Determining The course

I will have some changes to make to that section. We are dropping the coordinate plotting for now and sticking with the Public Land Survey System. Will not be drilling down more than section number though. I will be posting first version of regulations next week.

If you have a GPS, bring it. It will be helpful but not essential.

The 2011 March Muddy Waters

MMW returns in 2011 on March 26th.

A new feature for 2011 will be the marked map class. For those of you that are new to the sport or just don't want to deal with plotting the course we will provide a map with the course pre-marked. Just follow the route to the controls and enjoy the drive.
